It comes
to no surprise how much I love inspirational quotes and listening to talks that
provide the motivational words I sometimes (all the time) desperately need.
Lately it seems like everything is back to where it was: frustrating,
slow-moving and anxiety-ridden. It would be nice to see one iota of perseverance
payoff. So as I talked myself into a black hole of despair [I’d blame the time
of the month, but that seems like an easy scapegoat], I watched a video Christine
Hassler (the author of 20 Something 20
Everything) posted about Backtracking.
Backtracking
is when you get really clear about a goal or issue and experience your “aha”
moment. The “aha” moment leads you to feel empowered and on your way to
success. Then WAMMY BAMMY you fall
back into old behaviors. The reason we backtrack is so we can put into motion
what we have learned. We need backtracking to integrate our new practices and
patience into our daily lives. Christine says that “you take 11 steps forward
and 6 steps back. But the next time you take 13 steps forward and only 4 steps
back.” There are dips in your progression and the most important thing to
manage in these dips is how you self-talk and relate to yourself. Acknowledge your
feelings and forgive yourself for everything.
All
of this is bullshit anyway. Nothing I wrote about is actually what I wanted to
write about.
